Land clearing is the first job when your land is a wall of trees and brush. As a land clearing contractor, JRC Construction clears house lots and wooded acreage around Burlington and Alamance County. We open ground for a new house, a pasture, a view or a way in. The trees come down, and the stumps come out of the ground with them.
We clear land with the same equipment we use for land grading and septic system installation. One company can take your lot from woods to a graded house pad. We are based in Burlington and clear land within about 55 miles. Call or text (336) 516-7170 for a free quote.
Tell us about the septic system, lot, driveway, teardown or home project and where it is. We look at the job and put your free quote in writing.
Clearing for a new house covers the footprint and the driveway route. It also takes in working room around the house and the ground for the septic tank and drain field. Mark the trees you want to keep, and the clearing stops short of them.
If the house will run on a septic system, the county evaluates the soil before it issues an Improvement Permit. Alamance County Environmental Health asks for the area it evaluates to be clear of thick vegetation and debris. It also asks for the property lines and the planned house to be marked on site.
The Improvement Permit then shows the drain field and a repair area set aside for later. Under state septic rules, it can be suspended or revoked if the site is altered. That applies when the change means the system can no longer go in as permitted. Check with the county before machines work over either area.
The brush piles and stumps have to go somewhere. Our debris removal work loads them up and hauls them off the site. That leaves open ground, ready for grading.
The state's air quality rules allow burning land-clearing debris only under set conditions. As a rule, the fire must sit at least 500 feet from homes and other occupied buildings off the property. Only plant growth can go in the fire, and no fire starts during a North Carolina Forest Service burn ban. On many lots with houses nearby, that leaves hauling off as the practical answer.
Pulling stumps means digging, and digging starts with a call to NC811. State law requires notice at least three full working days before the digging begins. The utilities then mark their public lines, while private lines past the meter stay unmarked.
Bigger jobs bring in the erosion rules. Under the state's Sedimentation Pollution Control Act, disturbing more than one acre needs an approved erosion and sedimentation control plan. The plan is normally filed at least 30 days before the work starts.
Creeks and ponds carry their own rules. Burlington and much of the area around it sit in the Jordan Lake watershed. State rules there protect a 50-foot buffer along streams and ponds on the soil survey or USGS maps. Ask the town or county before clearing near water.
