JRC Construction is an excavation contractor based in Burlington, North Carolina. We dig and move dirt for homeowners and landowners within about 55 miles of town. Septic system installation leads our dirt work, and excavation covers the rest of the digging on a lot. The same equipment digs the sites for our own home builds.
Excavation is the dirt work that comes first on a new build. It can start with land clearing, then cut and fill to bring the site to the height on the plan. We look at the job and put a free quote in writing. Call or text (336) 516-7170 to set a time.

A house needs a level spot to sit on, and cut and fill makes one. Dirt from the high side of the lot fills the low side. Then land grading shapes the yard so rain runs away from the house.
Footings are their own dig. Footing excavation opens the trenches the footings sit in, dug to the plan and ready for the inspection. A detached garage or a shop goes through the same steps on a smaller footprint.
Septic work is excavation too: a hole for the tank and trenches for the drain lines. The same equipment builds the gravel driveway that reaches the house.
Burlington sits in the Piedmont, and the federal soil survey shows clay under the topsoil across most of Alamance County. The most common soil in the county, the Cullen series, has a red clay subsoil. Wet clay turns soft and sticky, and heavy machines can rut it.
The survey rates two other common soils here, Enon and Helena, high for shrink and swell. It also lists both as limited for house sites because of that. Helena soils can also have a seasonal water table 18 to 30 inches down from January to April.
On those lots, the time of year can change how a dig goes. We look at the ground before we quote, so the plan fits the site.
It starts with a call or a text to (336) 516-7170. We come out to see the ground and talk through what you want built. A plat or a site plan helps if you have one. Then you get a free quote in writing.
On the day of the dig, the 811 marks are in place and the excavator works to the plan. Dirt from the cut goes where the fill needs it. Septic trenches stay open until the county inspects the system, then they get covered.
When the dig wraps up, the ground is ready for the next step, like footings or a driveway. Stumps and brush from clearing can be hauled off as part of the same job.

We do the work in the quote. On a septic job, the county inspects the system before it is covered with soil.
