New homes and remodels within about 30 miles of Burlington

JRC Construction does home building and remodeling within about 30 miles of Burlington, where the company is based. We build new homes, and we remodel and renovate the homes people already own. We also build additions and repair wood rot and storm damage. Most of this work comes to us by word of mouth.

A new house starts with the ground under it. Our excavation side does that work on the homes we build. A lot without town sewer also needs a septic system, and septic system installation is our main excavation service. Call or text (336) 516-7170 for a free quote.

New Home Construction Around Burlington

As a custom home builder, we build new homes for people who own land or are buying a lot. We look at the house plan and the lot it goes on, then put a quote in writing. Burlington sits in the Jordan Lake watershed, where state rules protect a 50-foot buffer along streams and ponds. A creek on the lot shapes where the house can go.

On a lot without town water and sewer, the county comes first. In Alamance County, Environmental Health checks the lot for a septic site and a well site. State law then holds the building permit until the septic Construction Authorization is issued.

On our builds, the lot gets cleared and graded first. Next the footings get dug and the driveway goes in. Where the lot needs one, we install the septic system too. The dirt work and the house come from one company.

Home Remodeling or an Addition: Which Fits Your House?

About half of the housing in Burlington was built before 1980, by Census Bureau estimates. If an older house is sound but short on room, a home addition adds space without a move. If the layout no longer works, a remodel changes the rooms you have. Some houses need both.

An addition is a small build of its own, and we work as the general contractor on it. Our footing excavation work digs its footings to the plan, ready for the inspection before any concrete is placed. The new walls and roof then tie into the old house.

Opening a wall on a remodel can turn up rot from an old leak. That repair comes first, before new work covers it. When a house is too far gone, tearing it down and building new can be the better path.

Home Repairs for Wood Rot and Storm Damage

Wood rot starts where water sits. A leak at a window or a gutter that spills against the siding keeps the wood wet until it softens. Trim that crumbles under a thumb or a floor that gives underfoot points to rot. We cut out the rotted wood and put sound wood back.

Under state law, a smaller job that replaces rotted siding or porch decking needs no building permit. Replacing rotted framing that carries weight always needs one. The inspections office for your address has the final word.

Storm damage often means wind and falling limbs. If a tree is on the house, tree removal is a job for an arborist. Then we repair the house, and our debris removal work hauls off the storm debris.

How We Work

How a Job With JRC Construction Runs

From the first call or text to the finished work, here is how it goes.

1

Call or Text

Call or text (336) 516-7170 with the address and the job. We set a time to come look.

2

We Look at the Job

We come out to see the site and how equipment gets in. On septic work, the county permit shows what goes in and where.

3

Your Free Quote

You get a free quote in writing, with the work spelled out. When you say yes, we set a date.

4

Before the Dig

State law calls for an NC811 ticket three full working days before digging. Septic work also waits for the county's Construction Authorization.

5

The Finished Job

We do the work in the quote. On a septic job, the county inspects the system before it is covered with soil.

FAQ

Building and Remodeling Questions, Answered

Common questions about building and remodeling around Burlington and the surrounding Piedmont. If yours is not here, call or text and ask.

Call (336) 516-7170

How far from Burlington do you build and remodel?
Our home building and remodeling work stays within about 30 miles of Burlington. That takes in Graham, Mebane, Elon, Gibsonville and the east side of Greensboro. Our excavation work reaches farther, about 55 miles, and the service area page lists those towns.
What does it cost to build a home or remodel one?
The price comes from the size of the job and the materials you pick. A remodel also depends on what we find behind the walls, like rot from an old leak. A new home adds the lot work, such as clearing, grading, the driveway and a septic system. We look at the job and put a free quote in writing.
Can you build an addition on a house with a septic system?
Yes, as long as the addition stays clear of the tank and drain field. In Alamance County, an Environmental Health specialist probes the system and can grant an Existing Wastewater System Authorization. State law also allows an owner's exemption affidavit instead, when the work adds no bedrooms and no extra wastewater. An addition with a new bedroom needs a soil evaluation and an Improvement Permit.
Can you tear down an old house and build a new one?
Yes. Our demolition work takes the old house down, and our debris removal hauls it off. Then we build the new home on the cleared lot.
Do I need a building permit to remodel my house?
Often, yes. North Carolina law requires one when a remodel changes load-bearing framing, plumbing, wiring or heating. Inside Burlington city limits, the city's Inspections Department issues them. Elsewhere, ask the town or county inspections office for your address, which has the final word.
How do I get a quote for a new home or a remodel?
Call or text (336) 516-7170 and tell us about the house or the lot. Photos help, and you can text them to the same number. We look at the job, then write up the quote.
